We are looking for an experienced Scientific Director to join our team in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina!

You are a technical leader

  • You have extensive first-hand experience conducting experimental research or project design involving at least one or more of the following fields: cell culture, biological and biochemical assays, small-scale life-sciences engineering design, statistical analysis, coding for life sciences, scientific strategy building
  • You are comfortable assessing data, interpreting data, and leveraging data for actionable decision-making that impacts the greater company
  • As a life-long learner you keep a pulse on current relevant scientific literature, emerging thought, and innovation within your field
  • You like to move fast, but are able to maintain meticulous record-keeping and keep facts prioritized for diligent assessment at a moments notice
  • You champion organization in the lab and instill a culture of respect for efficiency, clarity, and planning

  • You enjoy working closely with your technical team to complete deliverables of a caliber to be used in funding materials, investor updates, and publications

  • Coordinate molecular and/or cellular research activities with scientists specializing in other fields
  • Evaluate new technologies to enhance or complement current research.
  • Prepare reports, manuscripts, and meeting presentations.
  • Lead milestone check-ins, KPIs, and tasks for individual projects. Includes experimental design, connecting experimental data across projects, inferring immediate action from presented data etc
  • Provide scientific and intellectual input to guide project-related cell biology proof-of-concept and investigative efforts within the context of interdisciplinary teams
  • Work with junior research associates on experimental design, troubleshooting, assay optimization and data interpretation, as applicable
  • Author technical reports and SOPs associated with the molecular assays developed and qualified for the team’s implementation

Qualifications & Preferred Experience


  • PhD in molecular, cellular, or developmental biology, tissue engineering, biomedical engineering, bioprocess engineering or similar, and at least 5+ years of industrial experience
  • Proficiency in various molecular biology analytical methods, and other standard molecular biology techniques
  • Background knowledge of cell physiology and behavior, including cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions, signaling cascades, intracellular transport, and polarization 
  • Expertise in mammalian cell culture, with preferred experience in multiple formats, including 2D, Transwell, organoid, and bioreactor models
  • Extensive experience with mammalian cell culture and cell line generation, preferred with adherent cell types, including primary tissue processing and cell immortalization, selection, and screening based on desired characteristics
  • Experience with compiling and analyzing molecular or cellular experimental data and adjusting experimental designs as necessary


  • Experience managing scientific teams, including  mentoring junior scientists and fostering a collaborative environment
  • Preferred knowledge of biological manufacturing processes, such as monoclonal antibody production, recombinant protein production, and bioreactor design and scale-up 
  • Previous experience with cell-based manufacturing, understanding of cell culture scale-up and/or bioprocess and bioreactor design considerations
