We are looking for a cell-culture bioengineer to join our team in Research Triangle Park, NC!

You are a technical ninja

  • You feel comfortable preparing cell culture media and aseptically maintaining mammalian cells in a 3D system on a daily basis in laboratory and production settings
  • You have conducted experimental research or project design involving at least one or more of the following: 2D & 3D cell culture, biological and biochemical assays, statistical analysis for process control, coding for life sciences, biomanufacturing scale-up, bioprocessing
  • You are comfortable performing critical analyses and interpreting data for actionable decision-making that impacts the greater company
  • You champion organization of data and insights from our process, and are able to bring rigor to the assessment of our experimentation and production to adjust variables for better results
  • Optimization of process and flow is in your nature
  • You are a meticulous record-keeper and sponge of team knowledge
  • Your voice is valued and you actively engage in regular scientific and broader all-hands team meetings

Qualifications & Preferred Experience

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or life sciences + 3 years hands-on manufacturing bio-engineering experience or Master’s Degree in life-sciences engineering field or similar + 2 years work-experience
  • Background knowledge of cell physiology and behavior, including cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions, signaling cascades, intracellular transport, and polarization 
  • Knowledge of and hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas: mammalian cell culture, bioreactor operation, bioreactor process development, and bioreactor data analysis
  • Prior knowledge or experience with depth filtration, TFF, precipitation, cell culture and bioreactor systems for mammalian protein production, and media development/screening
  • Familiarity with the production of monoclonal antibodies and the related bioreactors and upstream processing equipment
  • Experience/familiarity with cGMP process equipment and operations such as cell culture, bioreactors, filtration, chromatography, autoclaves, incubators, etc.
  • Experience working at bench-top bioreactor scale and comfort with sterilization and sanitation of bioreactor materials
  • Ability to troubleshoot manufacturing issues when operating a bioreactor

Preferred

  • Experience sourcing, installing, and qualifying capital equipment for bioprocessing
  • Knowledge of recombinant DNA technology, biological assays, and light microscopy 
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture and cell line generation, preferred with adherent cell types, including primary tissue processing and cell immortalization, selection, and screening based on desired characteristics
  • Experience with biochemistry techniques, including lysate preparation, electrophoresis, Western blotting, and 'metabolomic' analyses; enzymatic or immunological assays such as ELISA; biological specimen preparation, including histological sectioning, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, wide field and confocal microscopy, flow cytometry and cell sorting
  • Exposure to molecular biology methodologies, including PCR, Sanger sequencing and NGS, gene expression analysis, library screening, vector design, and genetic transduction
